Work Zone Safety
The DFW Connector project is committed to promoting safe driving practices on our roads, and in particular in work zones, for your safety and the safety of our workers.
TRAVELING THROUGH WORK ZONES
When traveling through work zones, please follow these three simple rules:
- Slow down
- Don’t talk or text on the phone while driving
- Pay attention to the road
As part of paying attention to the road, you should put down your phones and focus completely on the task of driving. Texting and talking on the phone takes away your ability to pay complete attention to driving. According to the National Safety Council, 1.6 million crashes per year can be attributed to texting or talking on cell phones while driving. Don’t be a part of this statistic!
In 2011, the Texas Transportation Institute has also conducted a study about distracted driving within the DFW Connector project. Click here to read about the findings from this distracted driving study.
Construction zones are full of traffic switches (areas where the traffic pattern has changed), construction signs, detours and orange cones. It’s important that you pay special attention when driving through work zones. If you don’t keep your eyes on the road, you run of the risk of hurting yourself, other drivers or construction workers.
